What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy or counseling, is a collaborative process in which you work with a trained therapist to explore your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and experiences. Through evidence-based techniques and compassionate support, psychotherapy can help you:

  • Build resilience and emotional strength
  • Improve self-esteem and self-awareness
  • Process and heal from past trauma and loss
  • Navigate major life changes and transitions
  • Enhance coping strategies for stress and anxiety
  • Foster healthier relationships
  • Promote personal growth and a greater sense of purpose

No two journeys are alike, and your therapy experience is tailored to your unique needs and goals.

Specialized Therapies: Brainspotting and EMDR

In addition to traditional psychotherapy techniques, we offer specialized trauma-informed therapies that can accelerate healing and foster deeper emotional resolution.

Brainspotting
Brainspotting is a therapy that utilizes eye positions to access and process difficult emotions and experiences, leveraging the connection between the eyes, brain, and body. It uses a person’s field of vision to help them process trauma and other challenging emotions or experiences.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR therapy is a well-researched, evidence-based treatment that helps individuals process and reduce the emotional impact of traumatic experiences. It utilizes guided eye movements and other forms of bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess distressing memories, enabling you to integrate them in a healthier manner.

While EMDR and Brainspotting are distinct therapeutic approaches, both can be highly effective in helping individuals struggling with:

  • Trauma
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Other emotional and physical pain

How it Works:

  • Brainspots: The core concept is that specific eye positions, or “brainspots,” are connected to areas in the brain where we store emotional experiences and trauma.
  • Focused Gaze: Instead of rapidly moving the eyes like in EMDR, Brainspotting involves holding the gaze on a particular brainspot.
  • Processing: By focusing on that spot, the client can access and process the emotions and memories linked to it.
  • Mind-Body Connection: Brainspotting emphasizes the connection between eye position, brain activity, and physical sensations in the body.

What to Expect in a Session:

  • Identifying the Brainspot: The therapist will help you identify a topic or emotion you want to work on. They may then guide you to move your eyes slowly across your field of vision, observing your reactions and physical sensations.
  • Focusing on the Spot: Once a brainspot is identified (a point where you feel a strong emotion or physical sensation), you’ll hold your gaze there.
  • Processing: You’ll then focus on what you’re experiencing in your body and mind while maintaining your gaze. The therapist will provide support and guidance.
